SUNDAY: Fluctuating brightness of lights and computor power supply alarm observed.
Downed wire between the house and road noted by Tango 999.
Called Edison but couldn't get thru.
Called again and was told no repair estimate was available due to widespread outages.
MONDAY: Edison said the repair would be completed on Wednesday.
TUESDAY: Edison still said power would be restored on Wednesday.
Borrowed the Woodbutcher's generator to see if the freezer would work (it did!)
WEDNESDAY: At 10 AM Edison said the power would be on in 14 hours.
At 4 PM Edison said the power would be on in 8 hours.
THURSDAY: At 8 AM Edison said we should disregard any previous estimates and they were re-evaluating when the power might be restored.
I got the same message at 6 PM.
At about 9 PM a convoy of 5 large Edison trucks (4 with high buckets and 1 with a big auger) showed up with flashing lights and blocked half of the road to replace my 1 downed wire. They all stayed and using 1 bucked at each of the 2 poles restrung all 3 wires. Wahoo the power is back!
Subsequent checking showed the only casualty to be the water softener which was one of the few items I hadn't even worried about. It turned out to be only the plug in power supply transformer which seemed like an easy fix except that good ole Sears is unable to get that part any more. Luckily the hardware store had a doorbell transformer that I could wire in that matched electrically. It worked and at only half the price of the Sears model if the had had it. Life is good.
Sorry that the party was somewhat restricted by the lack of power and my worrying about it but I still had a great time and want to thank all the Tamer's for showing up and making it a great get together. Love you all.

I didn't find the party to be at all restricted by power issues or worry issues. Puking issues, maybe... But I had a great time, too, all things considered. It was great to see everyone.
I'm with Mumby. The main party restrictions for me were feeling a mite puny after my bout with the flu (or at least a flu; i don't know if it was THE flu), feeling responsible for certain other people coming down with it (or one), feeling bad for you knowing how hard you were working the problem and that it is quite difficult to relax when one is in a situation like that. Added to the jackpot of having the rugrats swarming all over the place with their college this's and their high school that's, IMing their BFF's on their iphones, utterly ignorant of and apathetic to the brutal truth that your entire summer's sweat, your whole winter's larder was hanging by a thread that Edison was taking its sweet time tying back together. Like sweet corn grows itself. Like peas spontaneously freeze themselves in handy little plastic bags. Like asparagus appears on one's table, in the dead of winter, tasting like the dew was blotted off it that very morning.
So I had a great time. Despite all that, and the flood and the fog and the wind and the rain and the snowstorm in WV on the way home.
5 big trucks to do what one could have done sounds like and may well be overkill, but if you're resetting poles and replacing transformers and all, and you're one truck short, then what? Plus the union contract clearly stipulates every member of the bargaining unit gets two naps and one milk and cookie break per afternoon, and, well, it gets complicated with the seniority rules about who bakes the cookies, who pours the milk, who fluffs the pillows and so on. So it probably takes four trucks minimum to do anything.
So thanks again for having so wonderful a family. And for everything else.
