Clarification:
Certain recent house guests here in the Windy City neglected to mention that when we went to the seafood restaurant, we dined with a local celeb. True, it wasn't quite as cool as the last time we went to the same place and dined with Public Official A. But still. I'm just sayin'. When's the last time YOU ate with someone who goes on TV for a living? I thought so.
Health/Riding Update:
Got a cortisone shot in my knee 2 weeks ago and it's much better. Swelling's gone, it's pain free* (*some exceptions apply, not valid during all activities), so there's no surgery in my immediate future. Yeah. Plus, I think I might be almost over the nasty little cold that settled in for a nice long visit in my chest. It's been a mere 13 days of hardly any voice and hardly controllable coughing, which has not been delightful. I finally broke down and saw the doc today (mostly because I think Sherrie is close to smothering me with a pillow in the middle of the night, thanks to my ability to cough, loudly, whilst sleeping, soundly or otherwise) and despite my protestations, said physician prescribed me antibiotics. She mutter words to the effect of "we'll call it bronchitis" under her breath, so I'm thinkin' it ain't exactly a pin point diagnosis that requires prompt pharmacological intervention. In other words, being my father's daughter, I'll start them in a few days, if I'm not even the least bit better before then. Maybe. Still, I'm unfortunately recently reminded in the worst way that I have no health problems worthy of complaint. To wit, a good friend of ours got diagnosed with MS last week. She's about my age, has her own business that by all accounts has been going gang busters of late, and now this. So, really. I'm good. Really really good, in fact.
As for riding, the doc had me off the bike for a week to let the cortisone do its corti-magic, but I've been back riding for a week now, and despite the coughing I really want to get back out there for a race. So, I think I'll do a short little crit out in the 'burbs on Sunday. Just 25 minutes and some manner of "climb", or at least what passes for a climb in these parts. Prolly more like an overpass ramp, but whatever, I seem to be climbing pretty good lately despite my declining fitness, so it might be good for me. Plus, me and a teammate might have designs on pushing the pace from the getgo just to see how many people's legs we can rip off in the first 5 minutes. It might end up being our own, but as Lyle says what would we be if we didn't even try? We have to try. (and if it's not too late, make it a cheeseburger.)
Query:
Where is everybody? JB, you owe me a post - pictures of some bikes, at least, remember? Tang, we miss you. You too T-flo. And Nomas, where you be, bro from another mo? Momma B, how's your hinge? The cortisone worked for me, I'd suggest you try it. What about your wrist? Is the brace working? And what's the latest on your lightheadedness? Have you gotten someone to check your thyroid? A doc pal 'o mine swears that's what you need to get looked at. Can't hurt, right? What about you Daddio? All better from the last flush and fill job?
Peace. Out. Peeps.

Hey crip, thanks again for the good time. I thought the reataurant was just awesome, the food was great, and the reason for the celebration was just as awesome. Thanks for thinking of me. We so enjoyed our exploration of your new digs, and hope that Poppa bears 'suggestion" didn't cause any lasting blowup. I guess we both like looking at new stuff and seeing new ways to do it.
As for me, I did go back to the dr, and finally got a cortisone shot in the hip which made a world of difference. It takes care of both the wrist and the knee, well pretty much. The prednisone is helping too. When people ask why I have a wrist brace I get to tell them it's because I have arthritis in my knee. I spent so much time resting it, that I overdid the needlepoint and the knitting.
Speaking of knitting, you didn't return my call about the yarn, so I'm guessing that you A-changed your mind, B-wish to select your own yarn and pattern. That's ok either way.
Still haven't heard from the photographer in Hocking Hills, will work on that tonight or tomorrow. Everyone I talk to has a different idea on the clothes, so the jury is still out. It's late, I gotta go,. Love,
I hear you, sis - I'm FINE too. Two women in my book club diagnosed with breast cancer in the last 6 months, and three local women - all moms in their early 30's - fighting it too.
So what exactly WAS the reason for the celebration in the Windy City that I, for one, was not invited to? And what was the potentially divisive suggestion from the two bears? As Tango would say if he were here, inquiring minds want to know!
The celebration was a belated Momma B birthday dinner. I plan to take her to a fancier place (something like the 7th best resturant in the world, or so says someone who says they know about such things) for her 70th, like we did for Daddio, if she'll let me.
As for the suggestion, it went like this. FIrst the background: As you may know, I want to knock down our current 2-car garage and have a yard on one side and a 1-car garage erected on the east edge of our property. Lil Lotto's opposed, for myriad reasons, not the least of which being the cost (which usually doesn't matter to her, so I figured, what the heck??!! Why can't money be no object when it's something I want to do, for a change?). Daddio listened, with slightly pained expression, and kept mum while I told him my garage-based intentions. That is, until I left for work the day they departed and he had a few moments alone with Lotto. Then he not so subtley told her I was bat-shit crazy and we shouldn't knock the garage down. Great. Thanks for that Poppa B.
So. Now we're keeping the %*^$(% garage and our "deck" is most likely going to be roughly ground level, where the current cracked concrete slab/nasty & uneven paving stone thingies are, and the only "yard" we'll have is exactly what we currently have. Which is to say, hardly any. I thought Poppa B. had my back, but NOOooooooooo.
