Finally, today, we had a warm sunny day, I heard the 1st Spring Peepers, and the early Croci started blooming so I guess spring has sprung! The Redwing Blackbirds have been back for a couple of weeks.
Of course with the nicer weather other critters have put in an appearance - specifically Woodchucks. The have been digging burrows at the foundation both in front under the porch and in back under the mudroom. A couple of days ago I shot one by the barn and trapped another coming out from under the porch. Yesterday I got a third going in under the porch.
While I'm talking about my prodigous hunting prowess, I though I would add a couple of pictures from my illustrious past showing my outdoor abilities.
ps How do I tell this blog where I want it to place the pictures?

Well, look what the cat dragged in! Thanks for the photos. I was afraid you'd given up on us. And what fantastic photos. Little glimpses into the murky mists of antiquity. #1}Ice fishing(?) on some northern lake. You can tell you're in full backwoods roughin' it mode by the telltale absence of a pocket protector. But who could fish without a comb and a ballpoint pen? There's roughin' it and then there's just plain crazy.
#2}Looks a little like you ran over a squirrel on the way to a pheasant hunt and said whatthehell, dead is dead, meat is meat. Let's hope that whatever is in your left chest pocket is not a pocket protector. And the placement of the mums is perfect.
#3}If it hasn't snowed in the last 6 days, those croci are in for a shock, cuz spring comes in May.
#4}The smiling face of the Happy Hunter has been replaced by a countenance of grim satisfaction: So many small animals to kill,it doesn't pay to get too pleased about it. And the balled fist? What, did you beat this beast to death with your bare hands?
#5} The progression of critters could be read as distinct descent down the foodchain, starting with lake trout (livin' large), pheasant, (under glass? good times), squirrel (tastes like pheasant) groundhog (I ani't eatin' that).
Thanks for dropping those on us. Keep up the straight shootin'. Need an old dog? And if you have room in the freezer and you can toss those varmints in there and I'll take em home for the mutts. Fur and all. Unless you have other plans for them.
Thanks Daddio. Awesome pictures. I'd make specific comments on them but Tango beat me to it and made all the comments worth makin'. (Ha... pocket protector indeed. Too funny.) As for where you put the pictures, I'm no expert, but I've found that you can move them around a little once you've uploaded them- you "just" cut and paste all the code that gets added after you upload one, and put it where you want it. Know what I mean? I think I can walk you through it over the phone if you like... so grab so more pics and call me. Ta ta for now peeps. -X
Tango, you're pretty observant - I hadn't even noticed the comb in my pocket. From the looks of my hair sticking out from under the hat it looks like I could have used it. The comment about the squirel was uncalled for though - but your momma fell out of her chair laughing. As for saving the gophers, I've been stuffing them down their holes in the gopher town out in the field past the garden. From there they seem to disapear, but there is evidently more out there yet as they have dug a new entrance since their last casualty.
