Back in the Salt Mine

Seta, T-Flo and I wish everyone a Happy, Healthy 2008. Remember where we all were last year at this time? I do. We had such a nice, relaxing, varied visit, from the DIA to Coon Creek Road mud riding to butchering a fallen dove for whatserface. Nothing says Christmas louder than that. So far. So thanks for making us feel so welcome with the new addition to the "empty" nest. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we {three} did.
Arrived home Monday 1pm after a night in a Beckley WV motel watching Seta devour the dove. As I was debating about riding in the 60 and sunny weather, a guy I met riding a couple months ago called and said 'Let's go do the Borland Road ride' so we did and it was good. T worked that night, got home at 12:30 am and we said "HAPPY NEW YEAR" and went to bed.
Worky work since then, though we had the girls over Wednesday night for our little Christmas soup (Thanks, Bliss) and gift giving/stocking opening. Yesterday marked one year since that whole ACL thing, and I celebrated [Nomas had a previous commitment so it was only me] by joining the Critical Mass Ride in the sub-freezing night followed by a couple pitchers. Got good and cold here [for here] but should be back in the 60's next week. Ah, winter. So far that's 2 rides in a row without falling. Go, me!
About the only other thing I been up to is playing this fun and humbling geography game. It gets easier the more you do it since the same places keep coming up, but the Maldives? Mauritania? Please, I'm an 'merican. I got people for that. First try I got to level 5 ,I think, with around 193,000 points. But like I said, it gets easier once you know where (roughly), the
Solomon Islands are.
Once again, thanks for all fun and have a healthy, happy year.

Okay, I tried the geography game, even though I can barely find my way around this town I've lived in for 10 years. Mostly I got comments like "You know this is Earth, right?" Once in a while I really nailed one, though. I was only a few thousand points shy of making it to the next level. (Yes, dear brother, I flunked out at level one!) But what and where is the "western wall"?? I'll try again after I get back from skiing. It's supposed to start raining tomorrow and be in the 50's by Sunday, so I gotta ski while I can. I skied back and forth to work today so a young mumby could have my little red wagon, and my coworkers think I'm a little strange. It's less than two miles, though. I've decided that really, they are the strange ones.

Nice post bro - fun to read, informative, and included a fun game. Snap! Glad your recent spat of unauthorized rubber side up incidents has come to a merciful halt. Or at least you've managed to decrease their frequency. No future in that, i tell ya.

As for the geo game... fun, but the map's a little too small, if you ask me. I'll be back at it though. I got interupted with work during my first attempt, but I'm gunnin' for that score of yours.

Mumby Momma: I'm so lovin' that you ski to work. Why aren'y you riding a bike anymore? You really need to join the rest of the 'Tamers at a race (or several!). How 'bout you do the Hillsboro Rubaiux (sp?) down by St Loius at the end of March? 44 miles for beginner women, (like me) - that's 2.5 hours, tops. I happen to still remember (how could I forget??) that you used to regularly kick my arse in those 5k and 10k runs we used to do in high school. Bet it wouldn't take you long to bring that form over to more knee friendly activities... like, oh, I don't know...riding a bike. And if Sherrie ain't racin', I just might have a pretty fancy bike that should fit you pretty good...

I do believe I misrepresented my score on that geography game! I tried it again, and this time I did about the same or a little worse, but it gave me a little "report card" at the end this time. It stopped me at level 6 because I didn't have enough points to continue, but I did have 156,000 points. I'll keep trying!

A ride in St. Louis in March? Hmm... that's where Tim's dad lives, when he's not in Gulf Shores for the winter. I could ride 44 miles on the road (just not very fast), but I've never even tried mountain biking.

By the way, I think I'd rather be BoPeep than Mumby Momma. It's a long story - I'll tell you sometime.

BoPeep it is! the race in St. Lewee is a road race, so I guess you're in! Cool!

Doesn't Lil Lotto wanna ride? What are the dates of the race? And Mr. BoPeep wants to know if there is a mens race that weekend, which would greatly increase our chances of making it out to the Gateway to the West.

Lil Lotto's not too into racing, as a general rule, but you never know with her. The race in March 30th. I'll be there to ride with my team, so I'll have to be riding the race with them, (prob'ly) but you should definitely come down. And yes, of course there's a men's race. Here's the link for last years flier, for more iinfo... http://stlbiking.com/hillsboro_roubaix_2007.htm [The '08 flier isn't out yet.]

Your team? Holy cow, I forget how serious you are about this stuff. I looked at last year's race info, and I don't understand most of it. I don't know if I have 39/23 gearing or 700x23 clinchers or even what the different race categories mean. Plus I don't have a USCF license, so I guess I'm out. We still might come cheer you on, and ride the course later or something. Thanks for thinking of me!
